MAP & DIRECTIONS
Columbia Foundation is located on the second floor of Building 1016 in the Thoreau Center for Sustainability on Lincoln Boulevard between the Lombard gate and the Main Post of the Presidio in San Francisco, Ca. The main entrance to the Thoreau Center is in Building 1016. To reach our office you can either use the stairs in the main lobby or the elevator across the hall. Parking instructions are at the end of these directions.


A. Directions from the East Bay:
1. Take 80 West over the Bay Bridge.
2. Watch for the Golden Gate Bridge exit, then take 101 North/Van Ness Avenue.
3. See Directions C below.


B. Directions from downtown San Francisco:
1. Take any westbound street to Van Ness Avenue and turn right heading north.
2. See Directions C below.


C. Directions from US 101 North/Van Ness Avenue:
1. When 101 North reaches Lombard Street, it turns left, and continues west on Lombard toward the Golden Gate Bridge. Move into and stay in the far-left lane. (1.1 miles)
2. After crossing Broderick Street, follow the left turn arrow, and remain on the continuation of Lombard Street. Do not veer right onto Richardson.
3. Two blocks up, after a four-way stop, you will enter the Presidio at the Lombard gate. (.2 miles)
4. Proceed to the second three-way stop, and turn right onto Presidio Boulevard, which turns into Lincoln Boulevard. (.2 miles)
5. At the next (four-way) stop sign, you will see the Thoreau Center ahead and to your right – the white complex with twin balconies in front. (.1 miles)
6. Turn right on Girard Road. (.1 miles)
7. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
8. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


D. Directions from the San Francisco Airport:
1. Take 101 North to 380 West. (1.1 miles)
2. Follow 380 West to 280 North towards San Francisco. (2 miles)
3. See Directions E below.


E. Directions from the Peninsula:
1. Take 280 N to 1 North/Golden Gate Bridge/19th Avenue. (5.9 miles from the 380 interchange)
2. Bear left on 19th Avenue. (1.1 miles)
3. Follow 19th Avenue north through Golden Gate Park, and stay right towards the Golden Gate Bridge. 19th Avenue becomes Park Presidio Boulevard. (4.5 miles)
4. Follow Park Presidio, and exit to the right at Downtown/Marina Boulevard. (2 miles)
5. Merge onto 101 S./Doyle Drive, and follow right towards Downtown/Lombard Street. (1.2 miles)
6. Look for the Presidio exit immediately on the right before the first stop light. Take the Presidio exit onto Gorgas Avenue. (.2 miles)
7. Follow Gorgas Avenue, and turn left just past the underground parking garage onto O’Reilly Avenue. (.2 miles)
8. Turn right at the stop sign onto Edie Road and follow straight. (.1 miles)
9. Turn left into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
10. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


F. Directions from the 25th Avenue Gate (Southwest Presidio Entrance):
1. Follow 25th Avenue north to El Camino del Mar.
2. Turn right onto El Camino del Mar and enter the park.
3. Once in the Presidio, El Camino del Mar becomes Lincoln Boulevard. (.1 miles)
4. Follow Lincoln Boulevard north to the main post. (2.5 miles)
5. Bear right on Sheridan Avenue.
6. Turn left on Montgomery Street. (.2 miles)
7. At the dead-end, bear right onto Lincoln Boulevard. (.2 miles)
8. Turn left on Girard Road. (.2 miles)
9. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
10. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


G. Directions from the Presidio Gate (Southeast Presidio Entrance):
1. Take Presidio Avenue north through the Presidio Gate at Pacific Avenue.
2. Stay on Presidio Boulevard, which merges into Lincoln Boulevard at the second stop sign. (.7 miles)
3. Follow Lincoln Boulevard to Girard Road and turn right. (.1 miles)
4. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
5. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


H. Directions from the Arguello Gate (South Presidio Entrance):
1. Follow Arguello Boulevard through the Arguello Gate, bearing right through stop sign.
2. Stay right on Arguello and continue down the hill as you cross Washington Boulevard. (.3 miles)
3. At the next stop sign, turn right onto Moraga Avenue. (.4 miles)
4. When Moraga Avenue dead-ends, turn left onto Funston Avenue. (.1 miles)
5. Turn right onto Lincoln Boulevard. (.3 miles)
6. Turn left on Girard Road. (.1 miles)
7. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
8. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


I. Directions from the Marina Gate (Northeast Presidio Entrance):
1. Follow Marina Boulevard west to the Presidio.
2. Marina Boulevard turns into Mason Street once in the Presidio.
3. Take Mason Street to the first stop sign and turn left onto Halleck Street. (.3 miles)
4. Take Halleck Street to the stop sign and turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard. (.2 miles)
5. Turn left on Girard Road. (.1 miles)
6. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
7. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


J. Directions from the Golden Gate Bridge (Northwest Presidio Entrance):
1. Be sure to be in the far right toll lane.
2. From the toll plaza, take the very first right (at the bus stop) onto Merchant Avenue or the 25th Avenue exit.
3. Merchant Avenue ends at Lincoln Boulevard.
4. Turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard and follow north to the main post. (1.4 miles)
5. Bear right on Sheridan Avenue.
6. Turn left on Montgomery Street. (.2 miles)
7. At the dead-end, bear right onto Lincoln Boulevard. (.2 miles)
8. Turn left on Girard Road. (.2 miles)
9. Turn right into the Thoreau Center’s back parking lot.
10. From the back parking lot, Building 1016 is on the right end as you face the building.


Public Transportation
Muni
The Presidio is accessible by Muni (415-673-6864) bus routes 41, 45, 82X, and 30 (from downtown SF/Market Street), 28, 29, and 43 (from other points in the city). Only the 29, 43, and 82X serve the Thoreau Center directly. The 82X serves the Presidio during peak morning hours only. The others require a 5-10 minute walk from near the Lombard Street Presidio Gate. From the North Bay: several Golden Gate Transit (923-2000) buses also stop near the Lombard Gate.

PresidiGo Downtown
The free PresidiGo Downtown Shuttle is available to anyone who lives or works in the park or obtains a MUNI Passport. It makes commute-period trips to and from the Presidio and downtown San Francisco. PresidiGo Downtown connects to the PresidiGo Around the Park Shuttle to reach neighborhoods within the Presidio. Columbia Foundation guests are welcome to use the PresidiGo Downtown Shuttle, but must download and print the 2008 temporary weekly pass below to show to the driver upon boarding.

Parking
The Thoreau Center is a white complex with twin balconies in front. It is located between Letterman Drive and Girard Road on Lincoln Boulevard in the Presidio. The primary parking lot is behind the building.
1. If the back parking lot is full, turn left onto Girard Road.
2. Turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard.
3. Turn left into the front parking lot. Parking is metered in this lot ($1 per hour).
4. If the front parking lot is full, turn right out of the parking lot onto Lincoln Boulevard.
5. Turn left on Funston Avenue.
6. Turn left into the Presidio Community YMCA Fitness Center parking lot.
7. After parking, cross to the opposite side of Lincoln Boulevard and turn right. Building 1016 is the first building that you will approach.


Overflow Parking
If the lots above are full, other parking is available. Parking is available in the Main Post, directly across from the Post Office on Lincoln Boulevard. To get there, turn left out of the primary parking lot. Turn right onto Lincoln Boulevard. Turn left into Area 1 across from the Post Office. After parking, follow the sidewalk east along Lincoln Boulevard past the fire station, Halleck Street and Girard Road. Building 1016 is on your left. The walk to the Thoreau Center is about three to seven minutes. Area 2 is located off Gorgas Avenue. This all day, non-designated parking area is located behind the Thoreau Center directly between Buildings 230 and 1063. From the primary parking lot, turn right onto Edie Road. Then, take the first left on General Kennedy Avenue. After parking, follow Thornburg Road and enter the Thoreau Center from the back.
